Connection Voucher Scheme Closure
The Department for Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) has announced the closure of the Connection Voucher Scheme, part of the national Superfast Connected Cities Programme.
The scheme provided capital costs towards installation of business class connectivity (either superfast or ultrafast) to SMEs, charities and community enterprises. The scheme started in early 2014, and had originally been pencilled in to end in March 2015. However, due to the success of the programme, an extension was granted until March 2016.
However, due to increasing popularity, the funding for the scheme has been fully allocated approximately five months early. No new applications are being considered at this point in time.
We at Converged are sad to see the end of what has undoubtedly contributed to a greater density of business grade connectivity being found in the SME community, both in Aberdeen and the Shire, and hope that the closure of the scheme will not adversely affect the ever-improving network infrastructure in the region.
